Here we go, folks: the very first of these election-centric cold opens. Considering how horrible the prior ones were, four years ago, having celebrity cameos eating up the airtime that should be going to deserving cast members, as well the general terrible state of SNL’s political writing in general over this past decade, I’m not going into this one exactly with excitement.

Alec is milking his Trumpwin’s impression’s habit of pursuing his lips and those hand gestures. They aren’t working for me and make his impression even worse. I said it before, but seeing this awful “impression” makes me appreciate JAJ’s fantastic Trump (and his other impressions, in general) even more.
May 11, 2019 – Emma Thompson / Jonas Brothers (S44 E20)
Good to see another cold open with Kyle’s Chuck Todd. I enjoyed the first one and Kyle is a solid straight man in these.
May 4, 2019 – Adam Sandler / Shawn Mendes (S44 E19)
I have gotten quite tired with these Family Feud sketches, despite the fun performance by Kenan, and this premise, while I “get” it and what it is aiming for, I don’t feel is promising.
